So, into Wyoming we drove, all in a row. Today was Wallace's day to lead, so with the sun shining brightly, and a slight head wind, we rolled on down the highway!
While at the welcome center, we picked up a lot more books, some got a few cups of hot coffee to enjoy while we prowled around looking at the displays of their beautiful state.
There on a dry erase board as we entered the building was the temperatures for popular destinations in the area. We're not to Yellowstone, yet, but get a load of that temperature today!!
We'll be to Yellowstone before the week is over! |

Linda, Judy & Brenda kinda sorta make it look like they're rafting! |
After we finished 'playing' at the Wyoming Welcome Center, we all settled back into our rigs, and got serious about our trek to The Devils Tower National Monument. Devils Tower was the very first declared
United States National Monument by President Theodore Roosevelt. How impressive and breathtaking it was just to see it from afar. We parked at a spot for large vehicles but it was still awesome. I've since learned from reading the National Parks brochure that it rises dramatically 1,267 feet above the surrounding terrain and the summit is 5,112 feet above sea level. Oh, and did I mention that it was huge?? I will add some pictures of it from our viewing area. I'm sure we could have gotten some better pictures up the mountain a few miles at their visitor's center, but we seemed to do just fine at the area where we parked. These pictures just don't do it justice, and just don't match what our eyes saw today!!
While we were ooing and ahhhing at the Devils Tower, we spotted several climbers in various places on the tower! We were passing around the binoculars like it was candy! I do think we all eventually found the different groups of climbers! Wow, better them than me to climb on that thing!! Whew.. just too much.
Naturally, while we were there, the only thing left to do was to have lunch! So there were sandwiches and salads made. Books, cell phones, I-phones, and yes, more books were retrieved from their hiding places once again. A few calls were made to make our reservations at Yellowstone, and one for the stay tonight.
Back on the highway again, and within two hours, we were at our stop for tonight which is Indian Campground and RV Park in Buffalo Wyoming! Beautiful campground with lots of mature trees. Not only do we travel in a line, here we are camped side by side as well. Laundry has been done, dinners prepared, and now, since it's way past bedtime, they are all sleeping soundly, weary from a day of exploring and ready to face tomorrow!
